The Story of Charles Dickens

In the early 19th century there lived a couple in Portsmouth, John and Elizabeth Dickens. John was a clerk at the navy net office. Elizabeth was a theatre wife. It was a truly unusual couple compared to the is at those terms in Portsmouth; they were real outgoing and social. John and Lizzie (the pet account used for Elizabeth by john) often attended family functions, parties and dinners.

After a year of their marriage Elizabeth gave birth to a baby watchword who they named Frances. Elizabeth and john were overjoyed by the arrival of their son. The three of them enjoyed their family life. A few years passed by and year 1812 arrived. It was a very important year for john and Lizzie. They both were preparing for a very formal formal that took place every four years. On the 7th of February at evening john and Lizzie attended the ball but the same night Elizabeth gave birth to her second son. They named this son of theirs Charles Dickens.

Years passed by as john struggled financially to plump for his family with now in total eight children. With this little pay of his he was able to provide Charles with private education for close to time. John often loaned money since he was not remunerative well at his job and eventually he was remand for his debts in the marshalsea prison.



After a short period of time Johns family joined him. Since there was no one in the family to earn money Charles left his education and involvement in studies to work in the Warrens black Factory where he used to earn six shillings a week. However, the conditions at the factory were horrific and cruel which left Charles psychologically disturbed. Even after his fathers release Lizzie pressure Charles to work in the factory. Almost a year by and by when john found himself stable in terms of monetary resource he stopped Charles from working there and sent him to a day school in London where he canvass wholeheartedly to become a fine and an independent boy.
