Leonard Bernstein was an American conductor, composer and pianist noted for his accomplishments in both unsullied and popular unison, for his flamboyant conducting style and for his extreme flair, especially in concerts for young people. From 1958 to 1969 Bernstein was conductor and musical director of the New York symphonic music, become the first American-born holder of those blank spaces. In November 1943, he substituted on a few hours card for the ailing Bruno Walter at a Carnegie Hall concert, which was broadcast across the country on radio, receiving critical acclaim.
