The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe is about a man who visits his childhood patron and ends up witnessing the downfall of his friend. Poe uses his peachy artistic power in the score by manipulating the automated teller machine into a dark and twisted setting. The opening scene of the horizontal surface introduces a technique that is found affective in Poes writing, the mirror image. In the story you are introduced to Roderick Usher who has called upon his friend from boyhood for a visit. There are many elements in the story that are a mirror image to the mental defer of Roderick himself, including his twin sister and the dwelling they inhabit. These same elements also mirror Poe himself during the time he was writing the story. By using the three-fold efficiently, Poe is able to create unity within the story, reflecting everything to Roderick Usher and horizontal Poe himself.
When the friend first comes upon the house he notices the bleak walls (113) along with the the white trunks of decayed trees (113) and minute fungi (115) that covers the exterior. after observing the houses deteriorating state, he decides to continue on inside to meet with his old friend. He finds Roderick inside of the study, and notices his so terribly altered (117) appearance since the last time they maxim each other.
The narrator also describes Roderick Ushers tinct as cadaverousness (117). Poe uses vivid imagery to describe the decaying of both the house and Rodericks physical appearance. Yet, the exterior is not the only picture of both that is degenerating. The interior of the house is as dark and horrible as the outside, along with Rodericks deteriorating mental state repayable in part to MS. The house is a direct aspect of Roderick Usher himself. He has been confined in the house for so many years that he has literally taken on the house as another part of himself.
